Summer of Pride Blog
In July 2001, I coined the phrase Summer of Pride in my Wisconsin & Minnesota publication, G-Street, to describe the emergence of summer pride events in small communities throughout the Midwest. The term acknowledges that pride celebrations have moved beyond their beginnings in large metropolitan communities and into more and more rural areas and also recognizes that, with so many new events taking place throughout the region, GLBT pride celebrations have spread from the Twin Cities, Milwaukee and Chicago events of June's Gay Pride Month into a summer-long string of festivals that have enriched the communities they touch and act as a source of strength and celebration to Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered people living there.
Another Summer of Pride is just around the corner and this year I will be following up my previous articles with this new blog/journal and the Pride Tour 2008 as my way of facilitating communication and promoting these vital, non-profit GLBT events.
